Loss isn't just an ending; it also signifies a beginning, and it plays a pivotal role in shaping our world today.

About the Podcast

Hi, I’m Melissa Ceria, and welcome to The Loss Encounters podcast, an interview series that explores what we create from loss.

Each week, I talk with a changemaker – an artist, activist, athlete, or business leader – who has harnessed their creativity in the face of adversity to drive innovation, improve lives, and empower others.

As a journalist, I have been fortunate to interview people from all walks of life. During many of these conversations, a recurring theme has captured my attention: the connection between creativity and loss. What do we make from what is vanishing or gone? And how does it shape the course of our lives?

In this podcast, we discuss many forms of loss including bereavement, incarceration, displacement, disability, and loss of identity. We also talk about the disappearance of ecological systems, cultural heritage, communities and their traditions.

So often, though, we try to push loss aside because it feels shameful or too painful, leaving us isolated by our experiences. I believe it’s important that we break the silence and stigma around this topic. Loss isn't just an ending; it also signifies a beginning, and it plays a pivotal role in shaping our world today.

So, I hope you will join me to hear the vital voices of people whose work defies expectations. I’m sure you’ll find their stories are as remarkable as they are.

The Loss Encounters is available on all the major podcast channels with new episodes releasing every Thursday.
